Spring is in the Air

16Mar10

I know I have posted AIAS Is “Spring”-ing Forward but we are now officially springing forward with Spring Quarter 2010. The officers have had a chance to meet and discuss all of the events that will transpire this quarter. Now that we’ve met, the entire organization needs to meet! We will be discussing all of the wonderful events we have planned for the quarter. Spring Quarter is usually the most engaged term for the AIAS in the SOA. The lovely weather facilitates events such as outdoor ceremonies and crawfish boils.  We’ll let you know how to get into a bowling party at the Lambright, enjoy delicious Southern Louisiana style boiled crawfish, and get insider tips on how to create a portfolio that will stand out to hiring firms!

The meeting will be at 8:30p on Tuesday, March 16th in Hale Hall room 318. I know, it’s late, but what architecture student isn’t used to late classes, late nights, late submissions…you get the picture. You can RSVP to the event on Facebook here. If you have any questions or concerns, let us know. Our contact information is under the who are we? tab. You can also find any of our officers at their studio desks on the second and third floors of Hale Hall.

Hope to see you there!

*UPDATE* I forgot to mention when I first posted this; after the meeting we will be watching the film “Helvetica.” The following summary was taken directly from the film’s website, www.helveticafilm.com.

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which celebrated its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.
